10th Annual Small Farm Conference --- Nov 8-9, 2013

Sustaining Small Farms . . . 360 degrees
What this conference is about: The purpose of this two-day educational conference is to provide a venue for farmers, landowners and supporters of agriculture to come together to network and learn about new opportunities and strategies that promote farm profitability and sustainability.

New & Beginning Farmer Track
-
Starting a farm business can seem overwhelming. Where do I begin? What do I
need to know? What enterprise should I consider, etc.? Under this educational track, participants can expect to hear
timely seminars that will not only answer these questions, but also equip them with the knowledge and resources
needed to own and operate a farm business more successfully.

Home Food Preservation Class

Back by popular demand!
This year’s conference will be offering (2) food
preservation classes to teach basic USDA approved canning techniques to adults over 18 years. Participants on
Friday will learn about pressure canning and Saturday’s session will include water bath canning. Each participant will
receive an instructional handbook, materials, and supplies for a hands-on canning activity.
Spaces are limited. Pre-registration is required. (*Note: Saturday’s class will run from 1:30pm to approximately 4:30pm)

AGsploration! is the theme for our youth educational program this year which encourages awareness of
production agriculture, how the environment affects Maryland agriculture, and how agriculture affects everyday life in
relation to nutrition and health.
Lesson topics include animal and plant agriculture, agriculture and the environment
and agriculture technology. Registration is free for those whose parents are participating in the Small Farm
Conference and $10 per youth whose parents are not participating. For more information, please contact Nicole
