Kick off the local food season with the Chestertown Locavore Lit Fest, Friday March 25 and Saturday March 26. Food authors ranging from local bloggers to nationally proclaimed journalists will speak about local foods, agriculture, fishing, and the joys of eating. The event kicks off Friday night with a lecture on the morality, health, and environmental aspects of eating with author Lierre Keith, The Vegetarian Myth, at Hynson Lounge, Hodson Hall, Washington College.

On Saturday, after your visit to the farmers' market, make your way downtown to the Bookplate for a panel on how local authors were inspired to begin writing about food, featuring Chestertown Spy Garden & Food Contributing Editor Nancy Robson and local bloggers Aundra Weissert and Tara Holste. Afterward, stay for Lucie Snodgrass, author of Dishing Up Maryland, and then head down to Compleat Booksellers for NPR Food Commentator Bonny Wolf.

Take a lunch break in one of the many downtown Chestertown restaurants, then join us in the afternoon for New York Times bestselling author Paul Greenberg, author of Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food for a talk about how our love of seafood has influenced the history of four species of fish.
Sponsored by the Center for Environment & Society at Washington College, the Washington College Anthropology Club, Chestertown Natural Foods, the Chestertown Spy and LESSON. Please contact 410-810-7162 or tholste2@washcoll.edu for more information. All events are free and open to the public. Visit http://ces.washcoll.edu for a complete schedule!
