I started my journey with organic growing four years ago. It is a full-time passion, hobby, exercise, lifestyle, mindset; and part time job. My produce has been purchased by restaurants, a health food store, traded to restaurants, used as landscape and interior decoration, bartered to a commercial fisherman for seafood, given to friends, and it feeds my ducks and chickens on occasion.
Homestead farms Inc (HFI) is an organic, community supported, first generation family farm in Millington, MD. Our passion is growing authentic, certified organic food and our commitment is to sustainable, organic farming, public outreach, and education. Each year we market our vegetables through a Community Supported Agriculture shareholder service throughout Maryland. These folks participate in the community by coming to our three annual events, bringing children, friends and family along to enjoy the farm activities. Each person who experiences the farm gains knowledge of what it takes to farm sustainably and organically, how their food is produced, and develops a relationship with the community of shareholders.
Organically cared for fruits (apples, cherries, asian pears) & vegetables. Homemade goodies like salsa, cookies and quick breads. Eggs from Free-roaming chickens. Handmade fresh evergreen centerpieces for the holiday season and seasonal jams.
The library garden is a community project to demonstrate sustainable, chemical-free gardening to the public. Produce will be donated to local organizations serving our neighbors in need and used in library programming.
Partners include Worcester County Master Gardeners and Maryland Coastal Bays Program. Local businesses, Berlin Farm and Home (Southern States), Selbyville Pet and Garden and Adkins Company have all generously donated materials to this project.
