Ecological or environmental stewardship addresses the ways in which humans use the land and natural resources to work with local ecology and natural systems in meeting the food and fiber needs of populations. The goals of environmental stewardship are to preserve natural systems, take from them no more than is given back and, when possible, improve soil, water, and air qualities through their use. LESSON works with these organizations to understand the ecology of the Delmarva Peninsula and the Chesapeake Bay watershed and to educate the community about the integral relationship between agricultural practices and environmental stewardship.

Partnership for the Delaware Estuary

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary is a nonprofit organization established in 1996 to take a leadership role in protecting and enhancing the Delaware Estuary, where fresh water from the Delaware River mixes with salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of 28 Congressionally designated National Estuary Programs throughout the coastal United States working to improve the environmental health of the nation's estuaries. Its staff works with partners in three states to increase awareness, understanding, and scientific knowledge about the Delaware Estuary, the region's most important cultural, economic, and recreational resource.

Where We Work
ESLC helps save land and promote sound land use planning from the C&D Canal in Cecil County all the way to the Nanticoke River in Dorchester County. We work in Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne's Caroline, Talbot and Dorchester Counties.

Lower Shore Land Trust


In the first 13 years, the Lower Shore Land Trust has assisted landowners in preserving over 10,500 acres of land on the Lower Shore.

The Lower Shore Land Trust is a private, non-profit, charitable organization formed in 1990. The Lower Shore Land Trust (LSLT) works with individual landowners who wish to protect the natural heritage of their property, so that the character of the land and the quality of life it nourishes will remain intact for the benefit and enjoyment of generations to come.

We assist landowners in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties who wish to protect, in perpetuity, habitat necessary to sustain a diverse and healthy wildlife population, natural buffers that maintain water quality, and preserve scenic vistas and landscapes surrounding sites of historical and cultural importance. North County Preservation

North County Preservation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting rural life in Northern Baltimore County.

We focus on gathering and distributing fact-based information to encourage responsible development and preservation, providing education on the history, and unique resources of the area, performing studies on land use trends, and solutions to conserve natural, agricultural, and scenic resources, and promoting long-term solutions to increase agricultural sustainability and to protect open space. Adopt Your Watershed

E.P.A.

To encourage stewardship of the nation's water resources, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is leading an "Adopt Your Watershed" campaign. Through this effort, EPA challenges citizens and organizations to join us and others who are working to protect and restore our valuable rivers, streams, wetlands, lakes, ground water, and estuaries.
